In 2017, Peter Thompson ran an incredible 44 marathons in 44 European countries in 44 consecutive days – A marathon within every country in Europe. He completed this epic feat of endurance & adventure to raise support for mental health issues & to inspire others to challenge their limits. Starting in St Petersburg, Russia on 1st April 2017, Peter completed his 44th marathon 44 days later in Dublin, Ireland on 14th May 2017.
Travelling completely on public transport the route began in Russia and took in 44 different countries in 44 consecutive days. He ran a marathon in the morning and then spent the rest of the day travelling to the next destination to do it all over again the following day.
He overcame injury, missed buses and battled different weather conditions from wind, rain and snow to 30 degree heat. He also ran marathons in San Marino, Monaco, and even around the walls of the Vatican City.
The challenge linked in with running clubs and tour companies who supported the journey and made it possible. Most importantly it also helped to raise over £22,000 for 2 mental Heath charities Mind and Livability Holton Lee. Money which is being used to make a difference to real peoples lives.
